| Mathew Staver Founder and Chairman Liberty Counsel On Monday, President Obama assured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that, “the United States will always have Israel’s back when it comes to Israel’s security.” Yet even with Iran openly expressing its desire to obliterate Israel, the Obama administration has a proven track record of doing what is politically expedient for the President – and it rarely involves being a true friend to Israel. Jack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently told a delegation of our U.S. Representatives in Jerusalem that, “Iran is the largest danger standing before us today. It is what motivates the leading radical elements and leads to instability in the region.” It’s no secret that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of Iran, is desperate to achieve nuclear weapons status and will stop at nothing to get it. Iran is a clear and present danger to the world and to Israel in particular. But although Iran is Israel’s greatest enemy, it is hardly the only threat to “the peace of Jerusalem.” ++Israel faces intolerable pressures from all sides. Recently, a so-called “International Conference for the Defense of Jerusalem” that was opened by the Emir of Qatar attacked Israel and called the Jewish people “occupiers.” Most of Israel’s geographical neighbors attended the conference. And, of course, Palestinians want the United Nations to recognize them as a state, yet the Palestinians refuse to acknowledge Israel’s statehood, or even their right to exist. Further, they want boundaries redrawn that would be indefensible for the Israeli government, including permanently dividing Jerusalem. For these groups to insist, as they do, that Israel and her ancient capital of Jerusalem actually belong to a previously non-existent people group called “Palestinians” is to exhibit complete biblical and historical illiteracy. Each of these situations is a vital piece in a larger puzzle. The world is watching a new Middle East geopolitical reality emerging right before its eyes.
