This is a critical time for American security as Iran shows no signs of abating their quest for nuclear weapons while our President unintentionally made clear his flexibility with national security issues in an election year. President Obama, caught speaking to his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev on an open microphone, is reported to have said he needs more time and more flexibility from Russia on issues dealing with missile defense because of the election year. Is this what we should expect from the President on Iran’s nuclear issues?

More time to continue fruitless negotiations? More flexibility from his stated stance of preventing Iran at all costs and all options being on the table?
America’s national security is too important to be playing election year politics as this President so clearly showed he is willing to do. If he is asking his Russian counterpart to be flexible and give him time until after his election, what must he be telling other leaders outside of Israel about his willingness to give in on Iran? If negotiations with Iran proceed through the election then what will stop this President from giving in altogether?

Leaders in Israel have followed this closely no doubt and must feel that the words they heard in the President’s speech backing Israel are hollow. How can Israel, clearly in Iran’s crosshairs, feel secure knowing that negotiations that have yet to make any progress will continue, all while the President is positioning himself for re-election and pandering to a voting bloc he desperately needs.
