Our Constitution is under Attack! Constituting America is defending it from insults, indifference and ignorance! Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says she “would not look to the U.S. Constitution” if she were to have to draw up a new Constitution today. Instead she suggests that South Africa, Canada or the European Convention on Human Rights have better models! “Why not take advantage of what there is elsewhere in the world?” she asks. Similarly, Joy Behar asks on her show whether “all this Constitution loving is getting out of hand.” And, incredibly, Washington Post columnist Ezra Klein says the Constitution “has no binding power on anything” and is “confusing because it was written more than 100 years ago.” This is a big year for the United States Constitution! This week, on March 4, our Constitution marked its 223rd year as the supreme law of the land! And September 17 of this year will mark the 225th anniversary of the Constitution’s signing! We, at Constituting America, are not only celebrating this beacon of freedom by which all other constitutions are judged, we are working harder than ever to defend it from insults, indifference and ignorance. Constituting America is a 501 ( c ) (3 ) organization dedicated to ensuring our current generation of adults and the young people who are the next generation of Americans know more about the Constitution than the talk show hosts, main stream media columnists and other opinion leaders of today. And sadly, it’s a job that needs to be done. Did you know that more than 33% of high school graduates never studied the Constitution while in school? And, according to a Time magazine survey, only 18% of the adult U.S. population said they know “a lot” about the Constitution. It is pivotal to save our Republic and that Americans of all ages understand the relevance of the U.S. Constitution, and the principles upon which our Nation was founded! We at Constituting America are working to restore the Constitutional conversation! And we hope you will join us! We reach out to adults and youth alike in new, cool and meaningful ways to teach them about the importance of our Constitution. We utilize social media, music, film and writing to educate adults, students of all ages and schools about our founding principles.
