Mathew Staver, Founder and Chairman Liberty Counsel 11/20/2012 Early this afternoon, in a very gracious gesture, the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, His Excellency Michael Oren, made time to speak with a group convened by Liberty Counsel and co-hosted by the Freedom Federation and the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC). Ambassador Oren noted that this is the seventh day of Operation Pillar of Defense, Israel’s response to intense Hamas rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip. Although the Ambassador would never make such an inference, the dramatically higher level of these attacks began immediately following Barack Obama’s reelection. Giving us personal attention in the midst of a warfare situation and speaking from Washington, DC, in his nation’s most important embassy, Ambassador Oren invested precious time informing us of the situation in Israel, thanking us for our support, and asking for our ongoing prayers. Please read this urgent update and join me in answering the Israeli people’s urgent call for help – Mat. Jack, I was deeply touched by the utter sincerity of the message Ambassador Oren delivered to us today. Today’s conference call inspired me to redouble my personal efforts to stand in solidarity with the nation of Israel, and I hope you will also be inspired by what I am going to share. Ambassador Oren advised us that although the media is emphasizing the likelihood of an imminent peace treaty, his most recent defense briefing indicates the number of missile attacks on his nation are still increasing! Under these conditions, Israel simply cannot allow the terrorist group Hamas to continue threatening the lives of innocent civilians. I am grieved by the Ambassador’s report that life has become intolerable for the people of southern Israel. And I was enlightened by his consistent references to Iran’s pivotal role in orchestrating this violence. ”Iran has turned Gaza into an outpost of their nation,” he said at one point in the special briefing. “More than 5.5 million of our citizens are now under threat of missile attack, and over 1,300 missiles have been fired at us since we took action against Hamas.” The most positive report that Ambassador Oren shared was his praise for the Iron Dome defense system that has been 90% successful in bringing down the Iranian long range missiles that threaten Israel’s population centers. ”Remember, the Iron Dome system is the first missile dense system that has been proven in actual combat conditions,” Ambassador Oren said. “We are only using it when the enemy’s missiles are aimed at our urban centers and it has proven highly successful.” The Iron Dome system was created with help from the United States, but is being battle tested by Israel alone. I couldn’t be more pleased that this tangible benefit of U.S.-Israeli cooperation is saving lives in what has devolved into a full-blown combat environment. Disturbing new evidence shows that the network of terror against Israel is growing, and now includes the Islamic nation of Sudan. Yesterday, as violence intensified, Fox News reported that Iran has partnered with the African Arab state to help in the manufacturing and smuggling of long-range missiles through a series of tunnels in Egypt to Hamas militants in Gaza. This new information shows that an emboldened Hamas (the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood that now rules in Egypt) has been aggressively expanding its network to destroy Israel since November’s election in the United States. Without unflinching U.S. support, radical Islamic terrorists are emboldened and have subsequently increased their targeting of Israel and renewed their resolve to destroy the Jewish nation. ++Americans must be united in support of Israel. Jack, in the absence of strong leadership in our White House on this issue, and in light of the clear expansion of a network of terror against Israel, it is more vital than ever for Americans to stand in solidarity with our ally!
