The Madison Project

Team Madison-

We start this week with a celebration. If you recall, I sent out an the action alert last week regarding Amendment #1782 that was included in the Senate Highway Bill. Well, we helped beat it as it went down 51-47! Victories like this happen when we stayed engaged and informed.

In this week's Madisonian (Issue #7), you will see that the Highway Bill is unfortunately still alive thanks to irresponsible Republicans in the Senate. Hopefully Easter recess will save us from any short term damage on this bill.  Also, keep an eye on HR 452 in the House as Republicans attempt to abolish Obamacare's Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), better known as the Medicare death panel. Unfortunately, this piecemeal approach to dismantling government run healthcare will backfire as Republicans, instead of trying for full repeal, will try and remove bits and pieces of the legislation and leave the framework of government run healthcare in place.

In other news, the Madison Project rolled out another endorsement today. This one is in North Carolina's 8th Congressional District and we're thrilled to endorse Scott Keadle in his run for Congress. A dentist, Scott proved himself as a county commissioner, leading the successful charge to cut taxes and the budget of his county by 12%. You can read Daniel's endorsement of Scott here (I'll get an official one up tomorrow morning). I want to encourage you to give to Scott's campaign. I spent 30 minutes on the phone with him today and this man is a conservative rockstar.

As always, here is the Best of Daniel Horowitz.

1)      Do you want to know how your senators voted on the highway bill and related amendment?  We have complete coverage for you.  Please read more here
2)      We are often impugned by the establishment as “purists” who are seeking perfect candidates.  The reality is that we just want Republicans who will adhere to their campaign promises on the fundamental issues.  What are really looking for is consistency and a bold contrast from the Democrat Party.  Please read more here
3)      Are you under the impression that all freshmen Republicans are tea partiers?  Think again.  Last week, a freshman from a conservative district in Arkansas proposed raising taxes as part of a “balanced approach” to deficit reduction.  The problem is that he doesn’t support balance; he only supports tax increases.  This member never voted to reduce spending this year.  Please read more here
4)      Establishment Republicans are so predictable with their criticism of conservatives.  Kimberley Strassel, a prominent member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, penned an op-ed accusing conservatives of undermining Republican prospects to win back the Senate and repeal Obamacare.  The problem is that the people she supports and has supported in the past are not committed to full repeal of Obamacare.  Please read more here
