Dear Jack,

In the most recent tantrum by Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, that agency recently handed down an edict stripping the State of Texas of Medicaid funds to provide healthcare for low-income women.

And once again, it's all based on the Obama administration's dogged insistence that public funding should go to fund abortion providers.

That's right.  If poor Texas women can't use abortion mills to get their healthcare, then they can't get healthcare at all.

Hmm...I think that's called blackmail…

Last year with the support of NPLA members and other pro-lifers, the Texas Legislature overwhelmingly passed a law prohibiting the state from contracting with Planned Parenthood and other abortionists.

Naturally this didn't sit so well with the Obama Administration and its cronies in the abortion lobby.

So on March 9, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius visited Houston to issue an ultimatum to Texans -- Medicaid funding would be phased out unless the state would agree to open its Women's Healthcare Program to abortion mills.

In a compromise with the federal government over the issue, the state asked for an extension of the current waiver.

That way, low-income women could continue to have access to the more than 2,400 women's care centers that respect unborn life.

But Sebelius and the Obama administration would have none of it.  They drew a proverbial 'line in the sand.' -- Texas would go along with their "abortions for all" agenda, or they would shut off 30 million dollars in Medicaid.

Obviously the Obama Administration views as mere pawns the 130,000 poor women who are being left stranded with no real healthcare.

The fact is giving any money to Planned Parenthood is a horrible way to spend public funds.

Planned Parenthood "clinics" don't offer comprehensive women's care, and patients virtually never get to meet with a doctor, unless it is to abort a child.

All across Texas there are plenty of real healthcare providers that poor women can trust with their health care needs.

Texas has taken a courageous stand for pro-life principles and for state's rights.

Determined to replace the lost funding, Texas Governor Rick Perry insists that the State Legislature will find the money. The state is committed to the program and the women of Texas.

Obviously, some pro-abortion zealot in the Obama administration thought it would be good to try and push Texas around; thinking that Kathleen Sebelius could make this the Alamo all over again.

But many of us know the full history of what happened back in 1836.

Sure, there was the Battle of the Alamo, the symbol of ultimate patriotic sacrifice. Texans fought valiantly, but lost horribly. But they stood fast for what they believed in.

But that's not where the story ends.

A few weeks later, Sam Houston gathered a determined army of men.

Rallied by the battle cry "Remember the Alamo!" they attacked the Mexican Army and won independence for Texas.

Maybe the Obama Administration needs to take a refresher course in Texas' proud history.

Or haven't these abortion peddlers heard that you just Don’t Mess with Texas? - - - or with pro-lifers?

For Life,
Martin Fox
