Jack, Thanks to your help, Heritage Action and conservatives across America reversed what looked like a done deal. And now big government is on the run. >> Help us keep the pressure on as we fight big spending in Congress. When House Republicans introduced their a big-spending highway bill, Heritage Action kicked into high gear. We immediately told conservatives, and anyone that would listen, not to repeat the mistakes of the past; they needed to oppose the stimulus-style highway spending. Our arguments raised alarm bells across Capitol Hill, but nonetheless the bill, H.R. 7, was put on the House Calendar. Then, as President Reagan used to say, we brought the heat so they would see the light. We announced that we would "key vote" the highway bill would be a key vote, meaning that those voting for it would have a lower conservative score on our legislative scorecard. Our government relations team carried that forceful message to lawmakers. Then we asked hundreds of thousands of conservatives across the country to pick up the phone and urge call their Representatives and urge opposition to oppose the bill. The turning point in Washington came when we emailed conservative activists and asked for their help. As Thousands of Americans like you made calls and within 24 hours of our email, House leadership announced it would splitting the big transportation bill into three parts--a clear sign that votes for this big-spending boondoggle were not there. Then on Wednesday, consideration of H.R. 7 was delayed until after the Presidents' Day recess. In short, conservative principles and conservative action we slowed what looked like a done deal, and now big government is on the run. >> Add fuel to the fire: with your support we will continue to fight big spending in Congress. We've got ten days or so to continue keeping the pressure on. After the recess, HR7 will be back. It's essential that our team, as well as activists across the country, keep pushing Representatives to take firm stands against this big-spending boondoggle. >> Donate now to help us keep the pressure on. Sincerely,
Michael A. Needham Chief Executive Officer Heritage Action for America |
