CAPITOL HILL SUPPORT FOR OPEN FUEL STANDARDS GROWS:
CONGRESSMAN ALLEN WEST ADDS NAME AS COSPONSOR

Dear Ray,

ACT! for America is doing it again. We are slowly but surely moving the ball down the field on one of our high priority issues—breaking OPEC’s domination of worldwide oil.

November was a banner month on Capitol Hill when it comes to gaining support for this goal and, in doing so, sending a clear message to hostile Islamic regimes across the globe that they will no longer be able to use oil as a weapon.

As we reported in our last Open Fuel Standard Act Alert, during the first part of the month, Brigitte and Lisa Piraneo, our Director of Government Relations, spent a full day meeting face-to-face with federal legislators and educating them not only on the importance of the OFS legislation, but on why it is so critical that we turn “oil into salt”—salt no longer being the strategic commodity it once was. Over the following days, Lisa met with additional Members of Congress on this issue. She was joined by former National Security Advisor Robert (Bud) McFarlane, Anne Korin of the U.S. Energy Security Council, and Robert Stein, director of the OFS coalition. Once again, these meetings were tremendously productive and it was clear that our elected officials are beginning to see the light.

The continued push up on Capitol Hill—on the one side by Brigitte, Lisa, and the coalition—and on the other through your voices from back home via your letters and e-mails—has resulted in growing support for the Open Fuel Standard Act. The most recent victory? U.S. Congressman—Allen West, who recently added his name to this critical legislation as a cosponsor. Great news, indeed!

Congressman West understands that this legislation is a simple and common sense approach to finally severing our ties with OPEC and to putting a stop to our ownfinancing of Islamic terrorism every time we fill up our gas tanks.

Finally, a few important reminders about this issue:

Contrary to what some believe, though Canada does indeed supply a vast amount of America’s oil, purchasing from only our northern neighbor will not destroy what OPEC is doing to the world-wide cost of oil, nor will it decrease the terrorism that is funded through OPEC oil funds.
This is not about supporting ethanol, methanol, or any other alternative transportation fuel source. The beauty of the OFS Act is that it doesn’t support ONE particular transportation fuel—it only opens up the market to competition and finally allows the AMERICAN CONSUMER to choose from a variety of fuels for their cars and trucks.
The OFS legislation will be an American JOBS CREATOR.
There is PROVEN success with Open Fuel Standards: Brazil.
Many in the American automotive industry already make vehicles that can accommodate multiple fuel sources…just not here in America. If they can do it elsewhere, why not HERE to provide fuel CHOICE to the American consumer!
There are NO SUBSIDIES tied to the OFS legislation and there is absolutely NO COST to the Federal Government/taxpayers.
