Shocking Christmas blasphemy at Yale University --
"Piss Christ: Andres Serrano, 1987"

Send a protest message to Yale

Dear Mr. Hotchkiss,

I’m extremely saddened to say that Our Lord and Our Lady were subjected to a vile Christmas blasphemy at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, where poet Andrew Hudgins gave a talk that ended with the recital of his poem titled:

"Piss Christ: Andres Serrano, 1987"

The first part goes like this:

We are born between the urine and the feces,
Augustine says, and so was Christ, if there was a Christ,
skidding into this world as we do
on a tide of blood and urine.

If you’d rather stop reading here, you can now send your protest message to Yale Divinity School against this heinous blasphemy.

Later on in the poem, we read:

and on the third day he rose into glory, which
is what we see here, the Piss Christ in glowing blood:
the whole irreducible point of the faith,
God thrown in human waste, submerged and shining.

This is heinous. And it insults the dogma of the Virgin Birth of Our Lord, which teaches that Our Lady gave birth to the Infant Jesus without experiencing any of the effects of original sin; no pain, no indecorousness, no vulgarity.

And so, in spirit of opposition and reparation to the blasphemous event at Yale, let us say with Saint Bernard:

"Let us honor her for the purity of her body, the holiness of her life. Let us marvel at her fruitful virginity, and venerate her divine son. Let us extol her freedom from concupiscence in conceiving and from all pain in bearing.”

As we prepare to celebrate the most marvelous coming of the Infant King of the World this Christmas, and contemplate the Most Pure Tabernacle, Mary Most Holy, we also meditate on how such sinful blasphemies offend God and Our Lady.

That is why, besides praying, contemplating and offering reparation, we must also, as militant Catholics, send a message of protest to Yale University.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Robert E. Ritchie
