Dear Jack,
I've been told to expect a knock on my door any day.
Waiting for me will be a dark-suited man with an angry expression and a folder thick with legal papers.
Papers demanding I turn over your National Right to Work Committee's records, pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines, and swear to stop informing you where your politicians stand.
Big Labor's favorite federal bureaucracy -- the Federal Election Commission (FEC) -- will be at it again.
You see, with Big Labor's favorite politician Barack Obama in the White House, the union bosses will be pulling out all the stops in next year's election.
But they know there's one thing stopping them from imposing even more forced-unionism legislation on hardworking American citizens -- you and me and the 2.6 million members of the National Right to Work Committee.
The fact is, the union bosses' favorite government agency -- the FEC -- has always done their dirty work.
You and I know from more than twenty years of battling Big Labor and the FEC -- we can always count on the worst.
Back in 1978, we were served our first FEC subpoena by a hostile, young, entry-level FEC lawyer -- a subpoena demanding the names and addresses of every Committee member!
Similar subpoenas have been served time and again, including the time when your Committee dared to challenge the misnamed "Campaign Finance Reform" Law in court.
Once again, the FEC demanded the names and personal information of Right to Work supporters.
That's why I'm so worried as you and I head into 2012.
Already, your National Right to Work Committee accounts and staff are stretched to the breaking point from our battles
during the first three years of the Obama presidency.
That's why it's vital I get your advice TODAY.
You see, there's no doubt Big Labor is still fighting mad about the results of last year's elections, when
seven new senators and scores of congressmen, who pledged 100% support for Right to Work were elected, replacing union-label Democrats.
That's why it's no surprise the union bosses are running to their bureaucratic allies at the FEC and other Obama-staffed bureaucracies, not only to impose forced unionism but also to shut you and me up.
Going back nearly 30 years, the Big Labor bureaucrats have been conspiring to regulate your Committee out of existence -- demanding time and again even the names and personal information of Right to Work supporters!
Of course, Reed Larson and I have always stayed strong, refusing to cave in to the FEC's radical demands.
But the sad fact is, I'm afraid this time the FEC's scheme is working.
As much as I hate to say it, we've already seen before that it simply doesn't matter that the FEC's political demands are blatantly unconstitutional.
The fact is, a cabal of FEC bureaucrats are giddy about their chances of regulating the Committee out of existence under the guise of "reform."
And unfortunately, I must admit your National Right to Work Committee's financial accounts and staff are stretched to the limit.
That's why I'm so worried as you and I head into the 2012 election cycle and why I must have your advice.
For decades, you and I have worked hard to unmask Big Labor's lust for power, and time and again we have saved the day.
Now, once again, the union bosses are seething with anger and are vowing to punish your National Right to Work Committee for telling the truth in the last election about their forced-dues-for-politics spending spree.
Not only that, but Big Labor has seen the progress you and I have made in these past twelve months with the National Right to Work Act.
The union bosses fear -- more than anything -- losing their unlimited war chest and forced-dues power.
That's why Big Labor is so anxious to come after your Committee and silence us during next year's election.
And why we expect union-puppet FEC lawyers to swoop down on us any day.
No warning. Just the same bone-chilling demand:
Agree to shut up, or risk being shut down -- forever!
Since its inception, the FEC has been rotten to the core, sitting on the jugular vein of American politics.
And since the Obama administration has repeatedly used the federal bureaucracies to implement the union bosses' forced-dues wish list, it's no stretch at all that it will do the same with the FEC.
It won't matter that the FEC's attack will be completely without basis in fact.
It won't matter that the FEC's political demands have always been blatantly unconstitutional.
And it won't matter that the FEC's persecution of the National Right to Work Committee has a long record of failure in court.
You see, all they have to do is drag the Committee once again through the nearly endless mud of court proceedings: charge, countercharge, discovery, depositions, preliminary motions, written briefs, "surprise" witnesses, oral arguments, and appeal after appeal.
A gaggle of government lawyers are at the FEC's beck and call, backed by a division of support staff, researchers and investigators with nearly tens of millions of dollars to spend.
Every single one is paid from the seemingly bottomless government coffers stuffed with your hard-earned tax dollars.
Simply fighting the FEC now could cripple your National Right to Work Committee -- and they know it.
Sure, legal experts tell me the FEC would have no case. But before we beat the FEC in court, accountants tell me that the Committee could be driven close to bankruptcy.
The FEC hopes the threat of bankruptcy will force us into silence.
That's why, my friend, after all your support over the years, I need your advice now more than ever.
When the FEC hammer falls, I may not have time to contact you.
So I need your advice now.
Never before have I backed off when threatened.
But this isn't my National Right to Work Committee. It's yours. So
I'm asking you to advise me.
Should I cave in to the FEC's gag rules, turn over the confidential records they'll demand (including your name and address) and pay whatever fines they impose?
Or should I defy their unconstitutional power grabs and continue fighting Big Labor's political machine?
If you agree I should fight -- and with every fiber of my being I hope and pray you do -- I must ask you to chip in with a contribution of $10 or more today.
Fighting the FEC (not to mention battling Big Labor power grabs) could cost us hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars.
If you support our fight, I'm asking you to chip in with a contribution of $10 or more today.
Please sign the Membership Authorization Form today.
I may be forced to make this decision at any time, so I must have your answer right away.
If you want me to proceed with our efforts to fight Big Labor and defy the FEC bureaucrats, I must have your signed authorization AND YOUR FINANCIAL HELP.
This looming threat by Richard Trumka's FEC puppets proves that Big Labor is ready for its biggest ever political effort in 2012.
Here's why I am concerned:
With congressional and presidential primaries beginning in just a few short weeks, I expect an attack from FEC bureaucrats to come any day.
You must help me make this agonizing decision: surrender the field to Big Labor and endanger our nation's future -- or face an enormous, expensive lawsuit by FEC regulators that could bleed your Committee to financial death.
Without your emergency contribution, it will be impossible to fight the FEC bureaucrats and continue our offensive battle this crucial election year.
Here's what I'm asking you to do today:
** Sign the Membership Authorization Form today. Your backing is critical if I'm to stand up to the bullying tactics of the FEC bureaucrats.
** Chip in with a contribution of $10 or more right away.
As I've told you, Committee funds are already drained from our ongoing battles at both the state and federal levels and our continuing fight to expose Big Labor's forced-dues political agenda.
Without your financial help, fighting an FEC lawsuit may not only be foolish -- it may spell the end of the National Right to Work Committee.
If you authorize me to fight on as I hope and pray you do, please consider chipping in with a contribution of $10 or more.
But Big Labor's resources are unlimited, and their allies in the federal government are ruthless -- so the National Right to Work Committee needs friends like you as never before.
The future of Right to Work -- and our ability to fight back against Big Labor attacks -- is in
your hands.
Please
let me know where you stand . . . today.
Sincerely,
Mark Mix
