School District Bans Christmas Cookies, Cake, Candy, Soda

Westford school officials are getting tough on classroom holiday parties.
They’re banning sugary snacks and sweetened beverages from the celebrations this year.
Students are being told to leave the Christmascookies, cakes, candy bars, and soda at home and to bring fruits, unsweetened juices, popcorn and raisins instead.
Superintendent Everett Olsen says the ban onholiday sweets has nothing to do with being politically correct, rather, his motive is simply promoting a healthy lifestyle.
“We aren’t trying to take the Christmas out of Christmas. We’re not trying to take the enjoyment out of children’s lives. We’re just trying to act responsible,” he told WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Mike Macklin.

Today's school districts are a complete joke and a major failure to our children and the future of this Great Nation. Americas children have to go to school behind fences with a thing called campus police. Things unheard of when I was a child. If Amercas schools would get back to the basics, prayer back in school true American history not only would we save billions in tax dollars a year but we would save this Great Country.

As a child I loved the holidays celebrated at school with my friends...all of them!
We brought cookies, candy, you name it..and lots of it! Our Mothers baked fir every one of them.
I can honestly say I am a normal well adjusted adult with wonderful memories of having an opportunity to really enjoy holidays with my friends and teachers also.
We did not have any carrots, broccoli , or anything like that thank God! But we have memories of a few days a year that neither hurt or demented us!

Hum. On one hand I can agree, yet shouldn't the parents be involved in this decision too? Although if they've eating school subsidized lunches, then go for it. Bring back an hour of PE everyday too.

Wayne, absolutely right. Bring back supervised P.E.
A lot of rage and frustration can be released thru
P.E. Holding these treats back during holidays will
just encourage kids to get the same somewhere else.
Let them be kids!!!

shafphil - you hit the nail square on! Too many people just want to be told what to do and not have to think or take care of themselves! Then we have too many people who love power and will do exactly what the lazy ones want, think for them. As to the schools proclaiming they know best, what a bunch of garbage/ They just don't want to use common sense which is becoming very rare these days. Schools are nothing more than indoctrinating houses trying to make more brainless people!!

They should pay more attention to what they offer for the school lunch program, and only have 1 or 2 parties a year. If 90% of your diet is Fruits, Vegetables, Whole grains, dairy, Protein in the supporting serving and portion sizes than treat yourself occasionally at your parties. Unfortunately the school lunch programs are not great, but instead of changing them to be healthy, the administration decides to regulate the school parties. Also, there is no reason why healthier choices cannot be offered at the parties, but it should be decided by parents, teacher and children.

Just proof again that big brother is firmly entrenched in the education system and will continue to dumb down the American children and turn them into imam hussein's youth army the same way that Hitler did in Germany.

Common sense died in America years ago. The re-election of these miscreants called politicians time after time and the election of and possible re-election of the most counterfeit, horrible President in our history proves it. How in the name of God can any nation survive when it operates on such abject insanity??

teddy k would have benefited from the edit, of telling people what they must not eat.
how many cookie makers will this edit put out of business ?
will anyone really loose any weight because of this edit ?
will the school district now have illegal cookie dealers on the school grounds ?
has superintendent everret olsen ever eaten a (the gods forbid) cookie ?
how long will it take other school districts to also ban cookies ?
how long before the all the massachuttes school districts decide to burn down all the cookie maker buildings ?
is mr e olsen off his medication ?
do i stil live in the USA ?
this school districts action is insane !
inquiring minds want to know.

Someone needs to remind our school districts that they work for us, not the other way aroung. I'm so sick of school officials acting like they are the bosses of the parents, when it's our tax dollars that pay their over inflated salaries.

It's not totally the diet that's causing obesity in kids. It's the lack of exercise. When my children were young they were out playing, running through the woods, riding their bikes, etc. Now most kids sit in front of a computer playing stupid video games for hours in a day.

Once or twice a year the kids can not have sweets? Sounds like they want to ban Christmas and Easter to me, not sweets. If they control the diet of the children the rest of the year what does it matter if they have sweets one day for their party. No, it is control to the max and the side line is political correctness.

Just one more nail in the coffin of public indoctrination (education). Any parent who has the responsiblity to educate their children should not being trying to accomplish the task in the public schools. This principal is a complete and utter fool trying to hide his disdain for Christianity under the guise of promoting a healthy life style.

Give me a break. If they cared what the kids ate at school, they wouldn't be feeding them corndogs, chicken nuggets, pizza and tacos. At my daughter's school, they don't even have any vegetables on the menu. Maybe someone needs to start with the school lunch program before they stop the parties. Their Thanksgiving lunch, consisted of a cold turkey sandwich. What kind of meal is that? What happened to Turkey, dressing, green beans and sweet potatoes. Don't tell me they won't eat it either. If it is set in front of them, and they're hungry, they will eat it. A child is gonna eat sweets whether it is at home or school. When they come home hungry from school, they're gonna grab the fastest thing they can get their hands on-candy bars or cokes. This little deal goes back to the Season- they don't want kids to celebrate Christmas!
