Salvation Army marching toward abortion support?
Posted on December 17, 2011 by Conservative Byte

This is the season of the year when Salvation Army volunteers are on the streets and outside stores ringing their bells to encourage donors to fill their red kettles with money for the poor. The longtime Christian organization provides food, shelter, elderly services, disaster relief, prisoner rehabilitation and many other forms of aid.

But it also has adopted a position statement that is a step toward abortion, and pro-life leaders are expressing alarm at what they see developing.

In its statement on abortion, the Salvation Army says: “A number of biblical and theological principles underpin The Salvation Army’s position on abortion. …

“The Salvation Army believes in the sanctity of human life. Humankind was created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). All people – without exception – are of value to him, holding a special place in his creation (Psalm 8:5), irrespective of age, gender, race, religion, health or social status, or their potential for achievement.”

But it also states, “A serious commitment to the protection and care of the unborn calls us to a commitment to the prevention of unwanted pregnancy through means such as access to reliable birth control, safety in relationships, and societal respect of women.”

Specifically, it says the Salvation Army “believes that termination [abortion] can occur only when carrying the pregnancy further seriously threatens the life of the mother; or reliable diagnostic procedures have identified a foetal abnormality considered incompatible with survival for more than a very brief post natal period.”

As a longtime supporter of the Salvation Army, in the 80s I went out of my way to help the Salvation Army out by ringing bells 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. But, since I got this news, I will not help them out and I will not give to them. I will tell my family and all my friends not to give to the Salvation Army, because they now believe in child-killing. Since the Salvation Army is about Christ’s teachings; Christ does not teach the destruction of the unborn. So, this is a compromise with the ‘devil.’ Murder is Murder!! Christ never taught murder, or even mentioned in the Bible. They only time it is mentioned in the Bible is under the Ten Commandments, “Thou Shalt Not KILL!!” Just because an unborn baby’s life will be short if allowed to be born does NOT justify MURDER (so-called abortion). It STILL has a right to life, even if it is a short life. God has a plan for everyone and He has a plan for these babies. The Salvation Army has betrayed Christ like Judas betrayed Him with a kiss. The sanctity of human life does NOT include abortions. I hope this organization looses massive support. I believe life begins at conception, so they are support murder. Pretty sad, but that seems to be the Country in which we now live, thanks to the libs and Obammy.

The Salvation Army is not supporting abortion without cause. I agree if the mother’s life is at stake, then taking out of the unborn baby is necessary. Prevention of having a baby is not abortion. Using contraceptives is not abortion. It prevents people from having too many babies or children they can’t raise. Read again to understand.

“Specifically, it says the Salvation Army “believes that termination [abortion] can occur only when carrying the pregnancy further seriously threatens the life of the mother; or reliable diagnostic procedures have identified a foetal abnormality considered incompatible with survival for more than a very brief post natal period.”

This is prevention not abortion.

I most heartily disagree…when is everyone going to realize to trust in God FIRST!!?

I may be old-fashioned in my 80′s, but I don’t give a damn anymore, whether it’s another life at stake, or it being “incompatible.” Men and women should not decide on life, including those in prision. God has His ways of punishment, and fear that!

Have you ever thought about life in the 1950′s and earlier centuries, when abortion was not used as a tool to end life?

And, if anyone cares to comment in a negative manner, I don’t really care–you’re never going to persuade me otherwise, so put a lid on it!

Please SA, you are one of three charities that I believe legitimately help the people who most need it, Salvation Army, Catholic Church, and my struggling tuition free alma mater. If you begin supporting abortion choice and worse advocating it as choice, I will drop you as a charity.

If it is deemed that the fetus is abnormal at an
early age, or if the mother’s life is endangered,
then abortion is the answer. I am not for abortion
other then the reasons above.

twix, you might want to read the Tim Tebow story. If his mother’s plight doesn’t move you, nothing will.

True Patriot… you express your sentiment on extreme level… I’m pro-life and I believe in the right of everyone to have the chance to live if it’s for them to came in this world, but as a woman and as a mother, it’s our responsibility to take an adult approach on this issue, that means, that if the woman no want to have a child she can use other meanings before became pregnant, like contraception pills. I don’t know if you’re a man or woman, but truly no matter, some women has problems with their hormones, to have it in control, doctors prescribe this pills, that does the same thing, allow the women to have her menstrual the way should be.
As a mother, my daughter almost lost her life with the second child, so it’s the child, the emotion that I go through can’t have words to explain, if the life of my daughter is in dangers, I will suggest her to do whatever she believe is best for her. I have faith and believe in God, if something is to occur, I hope to be wise and my decision so it’s my daughter, but I will not loose my daughter and possible the child over a pregnancy that can kill her… I know her all her life and be with her all that time too, I don’t know the child, the pro-life is in ideology base on faith, I’m very pro-life, in fact I have my own when I shouldn’t… maybe I’m selfish, but the life of a mother should not be the cost for the life of a child, most especially if the pregnancy is not even a month old, I believe that is matter of conscience, and I believe is between them and God, I not going to judge anyone, because I been in that position where I almost lost both. She’s taken care herself to avoid of became pregnant, not for being irresponsible, but to be in adult who understand that is very possible the next time she will not count with it.
I have two grand kids from her, witch I adore… but my daughter has been the motor of my life. .. now all three are, and I’m very bless, but I still said that it’s not my place to judge anyone on their decision for dead or life. If you don’t been there, you don’t have moral authority to said anything, because you don’t know… it’s easy to stay in the other side of the fence and make points about what should or not be… try to be sometimes in other people’s shoes.
God bless.

Medical procedures are available so there will be no pregnancy. If you don’t do that, keep your legs crossed.

Medical technology is such today that both the Mother AND the baby’s lives could be saved. Abortion methods such as suction does NOT help if a mother’s life is in danger. Surgery to remove the CHILD , could save the mother and the baby. Intentially killing a child is always wrong.

the only time abortion should be allowed is when the mothers life is in danger, God does not give us the right to decide who lives & dies & each baby has a reason, even those that are not perfect

The Salvation Army, one of the 2 American strongholds I have ALWAYS supported, the other being the Gideons, will now lose me as a supporter. I never thought I would see this day. May God continue to bless America even as we bless HIM……this is a stab in the heart of GOD. I hope and pray that this is a false report.

The Salvation Army need not take a stand at all. It isn’t in the best interest of anyone for this statement to have happened. They were just fine as they were before this came out. Better to have not said anything than start anything that can be construed as negative.

“Birth Control” pills are also called “abortifascients,” which means it causes a hormonal change that inhibits a FERTILIZED egg from attaching to the uterine lining. So basically, the FERTILIZED egg starves to death and dies.

Ah it’s a slippery slope toward abortion that we follow, no doubt in search of funds. These days, if you want federal funds, you don’t get to worry about the unborn. SA has always been one of the best charitable organizations but reading this has changed my mind about a year end donation. Hopefully the SA will clarify their statement and return to the Christian view of sanctity of life and reject that statement. Otherwise, I’ll find pro life organizations to give to.

SALVATION ARMY HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY CHARITY TO GIVE TO…….THEY “”AS I HAVE HEARD”"”"TAKE ONLY 5% OF THE MONEY FOR THEIR ADMINISTRATION COSTS …COMPARED TO THE OTHER CHARITIES THAT USUALLY TAKE 85-9O %….. I DO NOT BELEIVE IN ABORTION….I AM SO TORN ON THE TWO REASONS THEY GAVE….THAT IS A HEART RENDERING DECISION FOR ME……I THANK GOD THAT I NEVER HAD TO CONFRONT THAT IN MY CHILD BEARING YEARS….WE EACH HAVE TO BEAR OUR BURDENS …AND WE WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE ….NOT ONLY ON THE ABORTION ISSUE….BUT ALL OF OUR DECISIONS …..

Life is all about choice or shall I say, free will. Bestowed upon us by God. In my heart of hearts I believe in this. The Salvation Army is within its God given rights to choose to support abortion, regardless how they word it. As I am well within my God given rights to say they travel down a path I do not choose. We have parted ways and those monies will now go to the Catholic Church.

Have you read this statement. This statement they gave does not promote abortion, just birth control. If consenting adults used proper birth control their would be no abortions by anyone.

Everyone can agree with the abortion when the mother’s life is at jeopardy and when the baby is malformed or not viable. Even pro-life as myself believe that is a cause for acceptance.

Salvation army does a lot of good work.
We do not need to do anything to hinder their good work.
