An Atheist’s Guide to the 2012 Election?

Magician and comedian Penn Jillette sounded off on the 2012 election earlier this month in a video from website Big Think. A noted atheist, he laid his thoughts out in the aptly-titled, “An Atheist’s Guide to the 2012 Election.”

A few tidbits from Big Think:

• On Barack Obama: You have two choices with Obama. You either believe that he is a man of Christ…or you think he’s a liar. And I’m surprised by the number of atheist free thinkers that support Obama and their argument is essentially, he’s lying about being religious ‘cause you have to do that to be elected. I’m not happy with either one of those….It’s a horrible reason to like somebody. I like him because he might be a liar. Horrible.

• On Michele Bachmann: I have tried with friends to say the most blasphemous sentence I can possibly say and it does not come close to the blasphemy of Michelle Bachman saying that earthquakes and hurricanes were the way God was trying to get the attention of politicians.

We don’t need to hear atheists’ guide to the 2012 election. They’re just like Odumo — liars, cheaters, robbers and killers. They know there’s a God, but they hate him. They can’t stand the truth because their master, satan, is the father of all lies and a murderer. They serve him well. They promote the lie that Christians are forcing their religion or values on everybody else. I have news for their ignorance. The majority of Americans are Christians and they support Christian values which this country was founded upon. They, the atheists, Odumo, the gays, the abortioinists and muslims are forcing their anti-Christian, American-hating, God-hating murderous agenda down the throats of the majority of Americans. It would take an act of God for them and the lame, lying mainstream media to tell the truth for once. The truth will set you free. See website: http://www.haasstrep68.com

Duck is the Creator , He has NO buisness in Our Government Or OUR Country ! I Also do not care What means is used to get rid of this poor excuse for a human , just as long as he is G O N E !!

          • Steven F says:

Luca Brasi: I agree with you with the POSSIBLE exception of the means of removing the man from office. Religion may be a deciding factor between two otherwise acceptable candidates, but the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave is not acceptable for any number of reasons unrelated to religion.

          • joee says:

            well said !!

          • American Patriot says:

            Luca Brasi,
We gotta get rid of him AND his puppet masters!

        • CJM says:

The bible was written by men–some books as much as 300 years AFTER Christ’s death. Furthermore, there is no such thing as a rapture–the Scripture does NOT support that man-made notion.

          • Garry Becker says:

Of course the Bible was written by men. The only written word that God Himself wrote was the original Ten Commandments on the tablets of stone that Moses broke, out of anger with the people, after he came down from the mountain. Just a not of point concerning the timing of the writings. The last Books written were the Book of Revelation in 96 AD; and the Books of John, 1 John, 2 John, and 3 John, written in 98 AD. As for the reference to the Rapture being man made; only the word is man made, not the idea. Try reading 1 Thess. 4:13-18.

    • Daniel Lee Troost says:

Your post is the best answer I have read about Obama, Concerned Citizen. You are correct about Obama. He is a liar and will be impreach soon!!!!

      • joe says:

        You meant impeached?

      • SUNNY says:

You have that right. Obama is a Muslim and once a Muslim always a Muslim. He lies about everything he does as well as Michelle. The sooner we get rid of him the better this world will be. I will support a monkey over Obama anytime,

        • K P Smith says:

That is true. Once a Muzz always a Muzz. To leave makes you an infidel and are thus marked.

          • Moe says:

Actually, some Muslims have had a life-changing experience with Jesus Christ, leaving Islam for the truth of God’s Word (the Bible), although for their brave departure from Islam and sincere conversion to Christianity, many have been severely persecuted, even unto death. God knows those that are His own, the Bible saying He will not lose a single one of them (except Judas Escariot, the son of perdition).

      • CJM says:

We can only hope….with the present congress, that isn’t about to happen. Sad is’t it!

    • I agree, and freedom is not free. The socialist agenda must come to an end.

      • JeffW says:

        @Concerned Citizen

Do you truly believe what you said above? You believe that atheists, Muslims and satanists are all the same? What about deists, Hindu or Buddhists? Are they lying, cheating, robbing killers as well? If you are truly a Christian maybe you should be trying to bring them to Christianity instead of simply calling anyone who doesn’t believe what you do names and casting them all into the same group. Your type of rhetoric is more likely to drive people away from Christianity than promote it. Maybe you should educate yourself about what these other religions believe before you call them all satanic and evil. We should only judge people by their actions towards us. Let God judge them based on their religion.

Just for the record, I am Christian and I can’t stand Obama because he is a terrible president and is promoting a socialistic America folded into a new world order. Not because of his religious beliefs.

        • Jerry Kaser says:

Hey Jeff W, don’t you think some folks might be judging, even though they know they shouldn’t, because they are just plain fed up and angry over the village idiot occupying the white house now?

        • Warthog0 says:

I don’t agree with Concerned Citizen, though I am concerned as well. However you are being disingenuous (lacking in frankness, candor, or sincerity; falsely or hypocritically ingenuous) and minimally insincere. Your comments and his are in quotes…. “You believe that atheists, Muslims and satanists are all the same?” Where did you get this from his post? He said atheists are God haters and that satan is the father of all haters. Later, he lumps atheists, Obe, the gays, abortionists and Muslims as “forcing their anti-Christian, American-hating, God-hating murderous agenda down the throats of the majority of Americans”. Your question infers that he feels the same about them, but you are typing words into his mouth, never mentioned, deists,(Deists?) Hindu or Buddhists. “Are they lying, cheating, robbing killers as well?” Again, you are projecting what you think he may have said to your previous assumption. He is asserting that the majority of people in this country and the world at large, fall into a broad range of Christianity where the members believe some of the tenets all of the time and some of the tenets some of the time. Which in reality he has a point only because the Christian majority in this country is being forced to accept, through court action and orders, that they make adjustment to their beliefs and render their religion something other than what they believe in. Is it fair, No is it reality Yes, Neither the majority nor the minority has a right to affect the quality of freedom or liberty enjoyed by either.
We supposedly are all equal under the law of our Constitution and for those who believe in a God under the tenets of their religion and their God. That is Concerned Citizens’ wrath! His not accepting the reality of injustice he believes is being visited upon his Christian religious beliefs, and I hope by extension, all the religions. As an agnostic, I have to side with him, he and his fellow Christians are made fun of, derided, mocked, hated belittled and on and on with the rest of the synonyms by those who have other beliefs or none at all or just have small minds or are small in stature and character. It is ok to be of another religion or to have none, as long as you are tolerant and keep yourself at least a nose length out of the rights of your neighbors’ freedom and liberty. “ If you are truly a Christian maybe you should be trying to bring them to Christianity instead of simply calling anyone who doesn’t believe what you do names and casting them all into the same group.” Why do you find it necessary to convert anyone to your brand of religion? “Your type of rhetoric is more likely to drive people away from Christianity than promote it”. In this, I agree with you. An education is always good ammunition and a good whack on your own head to keep one focused on what truly is important on our short stay here. “Maybe you should educate yourself about what these other religions believe before you call them all satanic and evil”. In total agreement!!!! “We should only judge people by their actions towards us. Let God judge them based on their religion”. On the money couldn’t agree with you more…..
“Just for the record, I am Christian and I can’t stand Obama because he is a terrible president and is promoting a socialistic America folded into a new world order. Not because of his religious beliefs.” Maybe he lacks some of the beliefs that drive the rest of the world to be better human beings, regardless the religion they practice. But as we know, there will always be intolerant, fanatic, ultra fundamentalists, who will use religion for their own profit, rather than the community they supposedly serve, as well as those that will use religion to manipulate those around them.

          • For the record, you would label me an atheist. although its kind of silly to label someone who doesn’t do something. I’m also an aunicornist, and an a-astrologist… etc. I also dispose Obama and what he has done to our great country. I oppose his socialist agenda… as do MOST people in america.

nearly 40% of people in america hold no belief in a deity. yet its religious bigotry and discrimination that they have to keep that to themselves. only 16% have the courage to say it out loud. (*those numbers grow every time some twit like the one at the top of this thread starts blowing off at the mouth).

We don’t hate anyone. (except for a-holes like the guy posting this verbal puss) we don’t want anyone murdered. and NO. we are not all LIBERALS. in fact, the vast majority of us ARE NOT LIBERALS. We are mostly libertarians.

        • Gary says:

Hey Jeff, how many times do you read about Hindus, Buddhists, as well as, most other religions, cutting peoples heads off? I did not think so. It is the muslims that are causing ALL the problems in this world!!

          • CJM says:

Gary, it would be nice if we could really blame all the muslims for causng all the problems in this world. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case–there are others who have gone over-board and are creating problems (homosexuals bent on forcing their life-style on us, atheists who are forcing the government to adopt THEIR RELIGION as a national religion for the US, political corruption, etc). Yes, the terrorists are from all walks of life–but I would say that it is the islamists who are the greatest threat to all.

        • Fenderman52 says:

Hindus and Bhuddists don”t say “Believe what we believe or we’ll KILL YOU!”

    • Well armed and ready says:

      Are you judging another?
      I’m just saying.

      • John C says:

Considering that the odds of the Bible’s prophecies coming to fruition (so far) are greater than 1:2,000,000,000, I’ll side with Bachmann’s comment. The fact that atheists are anti-science and prefer speculation and rumor proves they aren’t worth paying attention to.
Mr. Adopt an orphan, get government regulations and mandated costs out of the way and you’d see more adoption. You could almost raise a child on what the up-front costs are these days. Darwin Award candidates, most liberals, should not reproduce and reduce the collection IQ of the world. We have too many who are too ignorant and poorly educated already.

        • Mac says:

John C, where did you find the “fact” that atheists are anti-science? I believe you will find more atheists in the science camp than outside it. You must also “know for a fact” that the bible is the word of God, when it was actually edited under the aegis of the Roman Emperor Constantine about 1700 years ago.

          • Bud says:

Mac, you’re right about the bible not being as pure as it ought to be but there’s not much that we can do about it except continue to excavate old ruins and hope to find copies of the books before they got edited.
Most scientist, however, believe there is a God. They see the extreme complexities of everything and how it all works together so perfectly and realize that this couldn’t have happened by accident.

          • Glen says:

Mac, if the Bible was “edited” under the aegis of Constantine. he didn’t do a very good job, as the Bible we have today is essentially the same as the Dead Sea Scrolls, which Constantine did not have access to. The idea that the Bible was somehow “rewritten” at any point in history is simply false. And science was the invention of Christians, like Sir Isaac Newton, Lord Kelvin, Maxwell, Pasteur, and many more. The notion that the material universe is all there is (a la Carl Sagan) is contrary to modern science which says that 95 percent of all matter-energy in the universe does not exist within our space-time.

        • Anti science? Science is the foundation upon which someone bases their understanding of the universe. (An objective thinker does anyway…) therefore all non theists believe in science. period.

90+% of the science community do not believe in a deity. because there is simply zero evidence. the other 10% lie about their religious beliefs to avoid persecution by people like you… who make such idiotic statements like the one you just made.

Science brought us out of the age where religion ruled the day.. you remember what we all call that time? YES… its THE DARK AGES.

      • NoCrud says:

“Judge” does not mean determining whether one is right or wrong. Judgment is what the judge metes out AFTER the person/s is/are determined guilty. It is the punishment phase.

If one is marked by gossip, that is judgment.

“Do not judge that ye be not judged” is grossly misunderstood by most people. Learn first what Judge means in the Law and then you will understand it better and correctly.

      • Capt. Norman says:

No, I think that he is just stating FACTS, and not judging!!

      • bob says:

It amazes me how skeptics of Christianity love to bring this verse up… We are called to be discerning; pursuing the light and avoiding the darkness… The warning is to be careful how one judges… the logical extension of the argument of those who rally around this verse is an anything goes world, denying that universal truth exists… Sorry, but there is only one way to heaven and that’s not me speaking but the words of Jesus… “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
        Just saying.

      • patrice says:

Judging? Well you look at the “fruit”. There’s none, so something must be rotten in the tree.

      • Steven F says:

        Well armed and ready:
Are you referring to: “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye” (Matthew 7:1-5)?

There are certain measures by which I WISH to be judged.

      • Elwood says:

Well armed and ready, no he/she is not judgi9ng another! He/she is expressing his/her opinion. Nowhere in the Bible does it say you cannot have an opinion! Got it?

    • tt0077 says:

Hey, good christian. How many “unwanted orphans” have you adopted. Be a good Samaritan and adopt a few. Then, go out and tell the others what you have done, and others will follow you. Then there will be no need for abortion. The ladies that choose that path really do not want to, except that circumstances make it necessary. Walk in the other persons shoes (To use a good bible quote). I regard all you as being real hypocritical in wanting to make other people do as you kings want.

      • Jsmith says:

        Two.

Now crawl back into your OWS tent.

      • Mo says:

There wouldn’t need to be abortions if people were smart enough to not get pregnant. There are free clinics everywhere…use birth control! Lazy, vain and stupid! As for a womans health…weak argument. It is harder on a womans body to get an abortion than to carry a baby…natures way. Incest?? Ge, lets let the offender take the girl for the abortion to hide their behavior and then take her home to the sick environment that created the pregnancy in the first place! I had an unplanned pregnancy and she was raised by a family that longed to have a child. With couples resorting to babies from other countries because there are no babies available for adoption, that is a tremendously weak argument, also. Stop with the excuses…

        • Andrea B says:

I’m pro-life, and also in the medical field.

When you said, “It is harder on a womans body to get an abortion than to carry a baby…natures way,” you were incorrect about that.

It takes a womans body almost a YEAR to return to its pre-pregnancy state and it takes only days to recover from an abortion. Keep in mind, the longer she carries before aborting, the longer the recovery period.

That being said, THANK YOU for choosing to bless another family with your unselfish gift. IMHO, you did the right thing.

        • CJM says:

And there lies the problem, MO, everyone wants a baby, not a toddler, a child, a teen, or a special needs child. Certain groups will not adopt, regardless, yet they become angry if someone not of that group wants to adopt “one of theirs”. Some of our laws make it extremely difficult to adopt a child because the authorities make unrealistic demands on the prospective parents. It is also VERY EXPENSIVE ($10,000 is really cheap!). Consequently, people go out of the country to adopt. I know a couple of people who have adopted and it was a long, hard path from orphanage to the child’s forever home. If adoption was realistic in its demands, I might support it…but why should these prospective parents have to undergo shoddy treatment by “adoption” workers?

      • Tonto says:

What mystifies me, ttoo77, is that libtards like you support murdering thousands of unborn kiddies every year, but shudder at hanging murderers and peophiles and other useless pukes that have no social value to the world except as predators that we keep locked up in jails at great cost. You need to get your sensory housing group out of your cloaca and smell the coffee.

      • william says:

GOOD Bible quote You shall not commit murder

        • bob says:

          I prefer this Biblical quote:

“If a man [meets] a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her … He must marry the girl … He can never divorce her as long as he lives.”

          – Deuteronomy 22:28-29 (NIV)

Similar to the Koran’s promise of streams of virgins to screw in Heaven.

      • jmj says:

Hitler also felt that circumstances made it necessary for him to kill millions of Jews.

      • Richard Walker, III says:

There is a really simple solution to having unwanted babies other than abortion (murder). It’s called “Don’t have sex”. If a couple is too weak to abstain, it is on their heads (not society’s) to pay the consequences of their actions. Life is choice.

For those that argue for abortion in the case of rape or incest, I ask is it the fault of the baby growing in the woman’s womb that its mother was raped or it got started by an incestuous relationship? Does it deserve to die because of another’s crime? The human being that is growing there is a product of God, and it is His provence alone to end that life. For those that don’t believe in God, no problem, continue your behavior and when you die then you will know if you were right or wrong. Of course, if you are wrong it will be a little too late to correct your mistake… Nevertheless, abortion is murder no matter what you believe and even if justice for the murder is not given here, it will be given by God. I comfort myself with that.

        • Capt. Norman says:

          I agree, Richard!!

        • Robert says:

Unfortunately Richard, people in the ghettos dont abscribe to your neat call to abstain and the ressult is more burden on society. Maybe we ought to Privately fund free abortion clinics that are located right in the heart of the ghettos of our cities???

      • Bob says:

YOU are so screwed up in the head. Christians are not the one’s having these BABY’S. We have about 2 generations of spoiled Brat’s that refuse to grow up and be and adult take responsibility for what they do. If You are going to go out and have sex with anyone that comes along like a dog You should at least use some caution and prevention. Go in to any Hospital in this COUNTRY is full of Drug BABY’S. The Mother’s have the BABY then walks away. That kid when they grow up doesn’t have a chance in life. So when You start pointing look at yourself then tell some one who is responsible for that BABY that was killed or it life was destoryed and the name of having a good time.

        • Richard Walker, III says:

I see… So we should just kill those poor babies that don’t have a chance in life to put them out of their future misery? You should know Bob, if you are an adult, that there are NO qualifications required for making babies other than to be a fertile human being. There are NO qualifications required to become a parent, other than giving birth. That is the nature of humanity and has been the subject of legislation/decrees/orders throughout the ages. The Nazis did have some success with enforced sterilization, but I don’t think we want to live under that regime. Also, Ms. Sanger thought it was a good thing for the blacks back around the turn of the last century.

Unfortunately for the responsible adults in our society the only direction towards living a moral life is given in the Bible. The same Bible which has been pretty much removed from the mainstream of our lives by the progresive liberal establishment. Perhaps when we have descended into anarchy you will see the need for “moral values” that you so capriciously toss aside.

A good solution to the “drug baby” problem would be to sterilyze the “drug mother” after she delivered, and to put the baby up for adoption by a loving couple who want it. By couple I mean a man and a woman. I’m not saying that homosexual couples can’t love, I just don’t trust them to not raise the child into the gay lifestyle.
