Thank you for contacting me regarding the free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea. I appreciate hearing your views on these important issues.
During this economic crisis, one of the most critical issues is the high unemployment rate. One way to alleviate this problem is to open new markets overseas to American workers, products and trade. On October 12, 2011, both the House and Senate voted and approved the three trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea. This historic step will not only improve our relationships with these countries, but will also help improve our current economic situation.
