Dear Jack, I believe America is a remarkable nation. She is strong, prosperous, good, and founded on a unique dedication to the principles of liberty and constitutional self-government. Because you are a principled conservative, I know you believe this too. But today, America's future is on the line. The nation our Founders built and for which generations have sacrificed is quickly becoming a country that none of them would recognize. As our government and elected officials pull further away from our founding principles, America slips closer to European-style socialism and faces a rapid decline in our international standing. Just look at Heritage's annual Index of Economic Freedom. For the first time ever, the United States fell from the ranks of economically "free" nations in 2010. And our ranking dropped again in 2011. This decline must be reversed. I cannot stand by and let the country we love slip into obscurity—and I'm sure you feel the same way. That is why I've dedicated my full efforts to the work we're doing at Heritage to carry out the mandate our Founders left for us. It is a mandate of liberty--our responsibility to protect what was been entrusted to us. Conservatives like you are critical to our mission. We couldn't do our impactful work without you. As we approach the end of 2011, I have a request to make: Will you help Heritage fulfill the mandate of liberty? Together, we can put our country back on the right course.
