Stop EPA's Assault on Affordable Electricity

TELL CONGRESS TO BLOCK THE EPA'S UTILITY MACT RULE

Support America's Domestic Mining Industry

The EPA is set to finalize the "Utility MACT" Rule, by far the largest job-destroying Economic Train Wreckregulation that will raise energy prices nationwide and cost communities across the country high-paying jobs. EPA needs to reconsider their approach to the Utility MACT rule as well as the various EPA Train Wreckregulations threatening America's mining industry. Our nation's electric reliability and our ability to create jobs & grow our economy during the economic downturn is at risk.

We need you to contact Congress and urge them to stop EPA's new rule. During this current economic downturn, Congress needs to ensure any new regulations protect consumers, help create high-paying American jobs and make sure America has access to reliable and affordable electricity.

SUBJECT: STOP EPA'S UTILITY MACT RULE
DEAR SENATOR:

The "Utility MACT" rule put forth by the EPA will raise energy prices nationwide and cost my community high-paying jobs. I urge you to do everything in your power to stop this rule and encourage your colleagues to do the same.

According to the North American Reliability Corporation (NERC), the EPA is attempting an "unprecedented resource-mix change," that would cause 36 to 59 gigawatts of power to go offline by 2018. This could mean the loss of a quarter of all coal-based electricity, which currently provides 50% of America's electricity.

NERC goes on to state that the nation's power grid "will be stressed in ways never before experienced" and that electrical reliability depends on building new power plants to make up for the loss in coal-generation. The problem is the electric industryhas only three years to comply under the Utility MACT rule. Because the technology needed to comply with the Utility MACT rule is not fully developed, the three year window to comply is insufficient, leading to a lack of new energy sources. The result - American's all over the country may experience "brown outs" energy shortages and higher utility bills.

During this current economic downturn, Congress needs to ensure any new regulations protect consumers, help create high-paying American jobs and make sure America has access to reliable and affordable electricity.

Thank you for your support.
